Martian surface temperature images
Martian global surface temperatures

The newest TES images show the temperature of the surface of Mars as
derived from observations at a wavelength of 25 microns. These are
single-scan data from orbit 6. The large images were acquired when the
spacecraft was close to the planet, and the small images were acquired
when the spacecraft was farthest away from the planet. The black
pixels represent a temperature of about 100K (-280 Fahrenheit), and the
brightest pixels represent a temperature of about 265K (17 F). The
dark region in the first 6 images is the south pole. The dark area in
the last image is the Tharsis region, and in the very center of the
image, the short, dark linear feature is the bottom of one of the
chasmata of Valles Marineris.
